East Coast Arborist provides tree & stump removal, pruning & shaping, cabling & bracing, and fertilizing.
Tree & Stump Removal
In most urban landscapes large tree removal presents a challenge. Trees in neighborhoods like yours are often surrounded by other valuable plantings or structures. Tree removals often require careful dismantling by highly trained personnel utilizing state-of-the-art machinery to ensure safety and the protection of your home. The use of specialized equipment during tree removals is determined by the conditions in your landscape and the soundness of your tree. A standard tree removal includes taking down a tree, chipping all brush, cutting all wood into 20" logs, and cutting the stumps to near ground level. Wood will be stacked at or near the base of the tree. Stump routing and wood disposal services are offered at an additional charge.

Stumps…
…are often unwanted eye sores and can attract harmful pests such as carpenter ants and termites. I use specialized equipment to grind unwanted stumps or roots 6" to 12" inches below grade. The holes are generally backfilled with the resulting debris. Usually there is a mound of debris that is left behind which can be used as mulch.

3 Great Reasons For Pruning & Shaping
The 3 main reasons for pruning ornamental and shade trees include safety, health, and aesthetics.
Safety involves removing branches that could fall and cause injury or property damage, trimming branches that interfere with lines of sight on streets or driveways, and removing branches that grow into utility lines. Safety pruning can be largely avoided by carefully choosing species that will not grow beyond the space available to them, and have strength and form characteristics that are suited to the site.
Health involves removing diseased or insect-infested wood, thinning the crown to increase airflow and reduce some pest problems, and removing crossing and rubbing branches. Pruning can best be used to encourage trees to develop a strong structure and reduce the likelihood of damage during severe weather. Removing broken or damaged limbs encourages wound closure.
Aesthetics involves enhancing the natural form and character of trees or stimulating flower production. Pruning for form can be especially important on open-grown trees that do very little self-pruning.

Cabling & Bracing – Structural Support Systems
Often, a tree with structural weakness can be pruned to correct or at least minimize the risk of breakage, uprooting or other failures. In other cases, usually in combination with pruning, artificial supports effectively mitigate a threat while preserving your tree. Cabling and bracing techniques can help to extend the life of a tree that might otherwise require removal.

I can help you identify such problems, then design, install, and maintain the support system.

Fertilizing: Healthy Trees Start with Healthy Soils
The soils around trees in natural surroundings (like the ones in the forest) contain diverse populations of microorganisms and available nutrients that feed off one another. Because of these organisms, these trees tend to live much longer and stronger lives.
The soils of “urban” trees are often neglected. As a home and tree owner, you can assist in promoting a healthy tree by maintaining your trees’ soil. Treatment programs designed to provide the healthiest, nutrient-rich soil for your trees. The healthier a tree or shrub, the better able it will be to fend off pests, diseases and drought.
